If you’re lucky enough to get a housesit in or near London, you’ll probably spend your free time exploring its streets, museums, and historic landmarks. But sooner or later, nature calls — and not the countryside kind! It is such a big city, that where to find toilets in London can be a challenge if you are on a first visit. So I offer you these London travel tips gathered from my personal experience as a frequent London housesitter and a lover of the city.
QUESTION – What is your favourite public toilet in London?
ANSWER – Tell us in the comments below 🙂
💡London Housesitter Tips – Look out for Mainline Train Stations on Your Route
Whether you have plans to journey all over London or you are focused on one or two boroughs, read and take note of these London travel tips. It could save you a lot of bother. Consider and ensure you become aware of where the mainline train stations appear on your route. These are usually well maintained but you may need some money to use the better maintained facilities e.g. Marylebone.
💡 London Housesitter Tips: London Underground Tube Stations with Public Facilities
London Tube stations are another matter entirely, because there may well be public facilities for you to use, however, discovering them can be a challenge. However, they are available and there is a list further down of all the tube stations with public facilities that are usually open, so you don’t get caught short.
NOTE – As of 2025 there are 144 tube stations with public toilets. More facilities are promised by TFL ever year so the list is likely to grow.
💡London Housesitter Tips – Plan your visits to Public Museums and Galleries with care.
It goes without saying that all public museums and galleries have some of the best of London’s public restrooms but it is also rather obvious to say, but I’ll say it anyway, that they are always very much in demand so you could be in a line, or queue as they say in London, for some time. Also these buildings are usually so old that the facilities might be in need of expansion. So be sure to consider other options also.
💡London Housesitter Tips – Hotel Restrooms You Can Use for Free in London
Finding a clean, convenient loo in London can be tricky, it’s a huge city and you might not know where are you are or which direction to head. So here’s a tried-and-tested list for housesitters, digital nomads, and travellers who want to stay comfortable while seeing the sights.
Map out the city and where you want to go by looking up the posh hotels. Most give free and easy access to their facilities and most are in easy-to-access locations.
💡 London Housesitter Tips: When using facilities at a hotel, café, or pub, be polite and tidy — and if possible, buy a coffee or leave a small tip. Most Londoners are friendly and happy to help if you ask nicely!
