We’re Chris and Sarah and have recently taken early retirement. We live in the historic market town of Monmouth, on the English/Welsh border. We like walking and live in the perfect area for this, the beautiful Wye Valley, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. We love travel too and though we don’t have any pets, we’d love to find a house sitter(s) who could just keep an eye on our house and be there if my very independent and self-sufficient mother (who’s registered blind and lives in her own house two doors away) had an emergency such as a burst water pipe etc whilst we’re away. Our house is a large Grade II listed Georgian villa within 5 minutes’ walk of Monmouth town centre, which has many shops, bars, restaurants, coffee shops, and even a theatre and a cinema. It’s a 10-minute walk to Waitrose, Marks and Spencer, and Lidl supermarkets, and less to the River Wye and access to a myriad of country walks. Whilst Monmouth is in the beautiful Wye Valley and a short drive away from both the Brecon Beacons (Bannau Brycheiniog) and the Forest of Dean, it’s also only an hour away from the busy cities of Cardiff, Bristol, and Birmingham, and 1 hour 15 minutes from the coast. Being on the English/Welsh border it seems that every town has a castle, and it’s a short 15 minute drive to the stunning Raglan and Goodrich Castles, or Tintern Abbey. The house sitter would stay in our guest bedroom with a king-sized bed and an en-suite shower room. The house has a large open-plan kitchen/diner/family room, and the separate sitting room has a fireplace for real fires in those autumnal or winter evenings. We have good wifi and internet television with Netflix and Amazon Prime. A cleaner comes once a week on a Wednesday. Monmouth has a good bus service to all the surrounding towns and cities, but there’s no train station. A car isn’t necessary, but to make the most of this picturesque area, we’d recommend one. Monmouth has an Enterprise car hire in town, and we have a drive and a carport for parking. Homeowner Details
