Situated in a small hamlet in North Devon our 1800’s barn was converted in the late 1990’s so includes lots of modcons, including Superfast Broadband . In a rural location, we are still only a 15 minuet drive from the supermarkets and the Atlantic Ocean is just over a mile away. Our nearest town is Bideford but Bude in Cornwall is close too.
A 3 bedroom property with oil central heating and hot water, we also have Solar hot water and PV’s. A Multifuel fire in the lounge keeps it warm and cosy in colder weather and there is a Chimnea on the decking for those cooler evenings when we don’t want to come back inside yet.
The large kitchen has built in Fridge, Freezer, Electric Double oven and Gas hob with Microwave, breadmaker and the all import Airfryer. The breakfast bar is great for informal meals, particularly on sunny days, but there is also a separate dining room. The lounge leads through to a large conservatory which also opens out onto the decking. There is a utility room with washing machine, tumble dryer and second freezer, so we can make sure there is space in the kitchen freezer for your use.
Upstairs the bathroom has a bath as well as walk in shower and the main guest room gets the early morning sun. There is also a downstairs toilet where you can spend a penny!
The garden has hedges down the sides, a gate which encloses the large drive and is laid mostly to lawn with a pond and raised vegetable beds. The bottom patio catches the last of the evening sun whilst the decking outside the house gets sun most of the day. The nights are very dark and on clear night in the summer we can see the Milky Way. In this part of England we get some amazing sunsets which we can see from our garden or the nearby beaches. Even without the sunsets the local scenery is amazing with forest walks, Bluebell woods, sunny, shady or misty lanes and all kind of beaches. Due to the numerous different beaches in the local estuaries at nearby Instow and Saunton, training for the Amphibious landings of D Day of WW2 took place here. You can walk all of these and there is a 2 day commemoration event each year.
The gate opens out onto a lane where most of the traffic is from the nearby farms. The local Parkham Cheddar cheese is made in easy walking distance of our house and you can buy direct from the farm at very good prices. There is also a Milk Kiosk nearby and locals selling free range eggs. Just over a mile away is the village of Woolfardisworthy (or Woolsery as the locals call it) which has a village shop and award winning pub & restaurant – The Farmers Arms. There are also a number of good pubs, cafe’s and restaurants nearby, many of which welcome dogs.
Walkers love the Tarka Trail and South West Coastal Path which are in easy reach and from our lanes you can see both Exmoor and Dartmoor. These are both day trips with amazing walks (Tarr Steps is highly recommended) as are many Seaside towns and villages like Lynton & Lynmouth with its Cliff Railway and Clovelly with its cobbled streets that do not allow vehicles.
Although not numerous there is a bus that picks up and drops off at the start of the lane providing access to Hartland to the west and Bideford and Barnstaple to the east. The view from the top of this double decker is amazing!
An initial meet up before we leave will enable us to provide you with details of what’s on and where everything is as well as to introduce you to our lovely neighbours who are always willing to give advice and help. There is also a local Facebook page for Woolsery.
