Hello, I'm MishiSpain.
Hello! My name is Michelle. I'm originally from the Pacific Northwest in the U.S., but lived all over the world and spent the last 20 years in Miami. Three years ago, we left Miami and returned to Spain, this time to live in Salobrena, a quaint, seaside town we'd never previously heard of that's 45-minutes south of Granada and one-hour east of Malaga. We discovered a 12,000-person town rich in history and chock-full of amenities, live music, culture and beachfront seafood restaurants, with the friendliness and authenticity of of a small Spanish town, yet surprisingly undiscovered. We purchased a quirky, two-story loft-style former art gallery that was built about 1925, was a former casino for dominoes and cards, and was first renovated in 2016 by a UK interior designer to include curved Antoni Gaudi-esque staircases and a sweeping roof terrace. "Casa El Casino" is set below an 11th-century castle, historic church and the town's original market square. The house has a ton of personality and we've slowly turned it into a home. It has two full bathrooms, two bedrooms: one with a full-sized (brand new) chaise longue sofa-bed and the other with (new) twin bed with views out to the Mediterranean. The spectacular roof terrace has 180-degree views to the Mediterranean and Sierra Nevada mountain range, lots of plants and fantastic seating areas for dinner or cocktaiIs. Stroll cobblestone streets and you'll discover a fairytale town that has retained its warm, Spanish charm with restaurants, shops, farmers markets and the beach just a short walk down the hill. For 60 cents, a local mini bus squires people back up the hill if they don't want to walk and conveniently stops near the old town square and neighborhood restaurants. We have one senior dog, a long-hair chihuahua who is blind and deaf (but otherwise healthy) and wants nothing more than to be next to his human, or slung over a shoulder in his carry bag and brought on adventures. He requires the most attention. We also have five rescue cats (We're complete foster failures) that are EASY and relaxed: three from Miami and two from Salobrena. The cats love to play with a string or feather toys and the pupper just wants the warmth of his human next to him.
