THE PROPERTY We live in an historic farmhouse situated in the Chiltern Hills, officially classified as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The farm dates back to the 17th century and is surrounded by unspoilt countryside which includes an extensive network of footpaths and cycle ways through beautiful beech woods and ancient paths. Each season brings its own beauty: in Spring the beechwoods are carpeted with bluebells and the meadows bouncing with newborn lambs. Summer is the time for haymaking and attracts the Red Kites, Buzzards and Sparrow Hawks in search of small prey. By Autumn, the beech woods have turned glorious shades of red and gold, shortly followed by Winter brings fabulous sun rises and snowy landscapes. Badgers, foxes and deer are frequently seen at dusk. The owners retired from farming several years ago and now the property is managed by a local farmer who is responsible for the maintenance and welfare of the stock, so there is no agricultural involvement necessary for house sitters. THE FARMHOUSE The farmhouse is a traditional, well-appointed and welcoming home. It is centrally heated throughout and consists of: a lounge with an inglenook fireplace, a large farmhouse kitchen, utility room, dining room, study, conservatory and cloakroom. Upstairs there are four double bedrooms, three with king size beds and one with twin beds. There are two shower rooms and a bathroom, another study and a single bedroom. The property has Wi-Fi internet and all the usual entertainment facilities and modern conveniences: washing machine, tumble dryer, dishwasher, fridge and deep freeze etc. The house is set back from the road and stands in its own grounds and well maintained gardens with stunning views of the surrounding farmland and beechwoods. There are two patios, a barbecue and garden furniture. A charming summerhouse nestles beside the small lake and provides a lounge area, a fully fitted kitchen and a dining area on the sun deck. RESPONSIBILITIES In terms of maintenance: a lawn mowing contractor attends to the grass on a weekly basis during the Summer, a professional gardener tends the garden fortnightly and a professional cleaner cares for the farmhouse two mornings a week. The house sitters’ primary responsibilities are to exercise and care for Dylan and to ensure that the garden is sufficiently watered in the Summer months. PET CARE The owners have one dog, a Welsh Corgi called “Dylan”, from whom guests can be guaranteed an enthusiastic and friendly welcome. Dylan loves walks and enjoys human company. LOCATION In terms of location, the farm is situated close to The Lee village, near Great Missenden and has a lovely pub/restaurant and well stocked village shop which is open seven days a week. Both facilities are located within an easy walk from the farm. There is an 18 hole golf course nearby and further sporting facilities and swimming pools in Amersham and Chesham.
